Happy with your new build? Has the builder been meticulous in its construction? We have found that a good indication of the general overall quality in a new property can be found just by examining the stairs and landing balustrade. Take a close look and check there are no excessive gaps where the handrails meet the posts and that there are no untidy paint splashes on the handrails which are the usual suspects which point to the need to get the job done quickly. Other potential snags could include wobbly posts, poorly aligned posts (sometimes the posts are not aligned square on, which by the way is a lengthy fix), rough finish around the screw fixings, loose spindles, loose newel caps, excessive shrinkage, patchy and untidy varnish on handrails etc. A sloppy finish on the balustrade also happens to be a huge irritation and disappointment for many a new purchaser.
